HISTORY

The first meeting of the Saint Joseph Bay Chapter, National Society Daughters of the American Revolution, was held on October 23, 1975, in the Garden Center of Port St. Joe.  Twenty-five members were present.  Prior to the first meeting, The State Regent, Mrs. Frances Campbell, installed the first officers and announced the official name of the new chapter.  The name "Saint Joseph Bay" was chosen because of the historical significance of the Bay since 1942.

Early navigators attached great importance to the Bay, and it was linked with Colonial, Revolutionary, and Civil War History.  The officers were as follows:

Mrs. Paul Fensom
Regent

Mrs. T. A. Owens
Vice Regent

Mrs. Charles Brown
Recording Secretary

Mrs. Herman Dean
Treasurer

Mrs. W. B. Simmons
Registrar

The chapter originally consisted of 35 members. The Chapter marked its 20th Anniversary in 1995 and celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2002.
